Meet Thin Mint

Thin Mint (they/them) has been calling roller derby for more than 15 years, bringing a signature mix of clarity, charisma, and controlled chaos to tracks across the Mid-South and beyond. What started as a derby superfan moment at a Texas Rollergirls bout in 2004 turned into a lifelong obsession with the sound and rhythm of the sport. Today, Thin Mint is one of the most recognizable voices in their region, known for precise play-by-play, engaging color commentary, and the kind of warm humor that makes the sport feel immediately accessible—even to brand-new fans walking into their first bout.

Based in Nashville, Thin Mint currently announces for Nashville Roller Derby, Trans Rollers United, Vette City Roller Derby, and other leagues in the region. Their approach balances the professionalism of a seasoned broadcaster with the personality and soul of derby culture. Every call is rooted in context—strategy, penalties, momentum, crowd energy, game flow—delivered in a way that helps fans follow the action without ever talking over the magic happening on the track.

Before derby took over their weekends, Thin Mint spent years in live sports broadcasting as a color commentator for high school football and college basketball and baseball. That background informs every part of their announcing style: the pacing, the timing, the narrative framing, the ability to paint a picture with words in the split second between a star pass and a full defensive waterfall.

Thin Mint is also deeply embedded in the community side of derby. They are the founder of Roller Derby Acadie, a collective team made up of skaters of Acadian and Cajun descent, and they currently serve as Sales & Marketing Co-Director for Nashville Roller Derby and a board member of Trans Rollers United, they champion inclusive narratives and visibility for queer and transgender athletes. They believe that sports should uplift everyone on the track, behind the scenes, and in the crowd—and their announcing reflects that ethos. You’ll hear it in the excitement they bring to every skater’s moment, in their commitment to accurate pronouns, and in their dedication to making derby feel like home for anyone who loves it.

Whether they’re calling a nail-biter in front of a packed gym, explaining the finer points of jammer strategy to new fans, or introducing a team with their trademark hype-forward style, Thin Mint brings clarity, authenticity, and big derby heart to every event. They don’t just announce roller derby—they help tell its story, one jam at a time.

Thin Mint is also a proud member of the Skatetanic Temple and API Fury, two community-driven groups that champion inclusion, representation, and visibility in derby. These affiliations reflect what drives Thin Mint both on and off the mic: the belief that roller derby thrives when its most marginalized and most passionate voices are amplified.

If you’re looking for a knowledgeable, energetic, and community-focused announcer for your next bout or tournament, Thin Mint would love to be part of your pack.
